Third-Party Liability (TPL)

What is Third-Party Liability insurance ?

In many countries, the rule is that every car cruising the roads must be equipped with Third-Party Liability coverage. That's why when you rent a car, the rental companies automatically include it such as our company. Take some time to understand the ins and outs of how this coverage operates.

Anyone who isn't you is a 'third party'—this includes other drivers, people walking, and even those riding in your car. 'Liability' simply means you're legally responsible, especially when it comes to covering the expenses for damage or injuries. Therefore, if you're renting a car, having Third-Party Liability coverage is crucial. It ensures you're protected if you accidentally hurt someone or damage their property while driving.

What Third-Party Liability coverage does ?

If a driver is at fault for an accident, they're on the hook for a few things:

1. Covering the expenses for any damage caused to someone else's property, be it a car, a fence, a laptop, or anything else.
2. Taking care of the costs related to injuries and damages suffered by the other party. This includes medical bills, lost wages, and more.
3. Handling third-party legal costs and additional expenses, like court fees or expert fees.

It could get pretty costly, but the driver's Third-Party Liability coverage steps in and pays for these expenses, with the rental company handling all the paperwork. This is why having Third-Party Liability coverage is a must—it's a legal requirement. Without it, the driver would have to foot the bill themselves, and for many, that's just not affordable.

What Third-Party Liability coverage does NOT do ?

Third-Party Liability coverage doesn't extend to covering any damages to the driver's rented vehicle or instances of theft. It also might not provide coverage if the driver violates the rental agreement terms or local laws. For instance, breaking the agreement by off-roading, driving under the influence, or letting someone not named in the rental agreement drive can void the coverage.

In such cases, if an accident occurs, the insurance company will still handle the costs the driver owes to third parties. However, the insurance company could then pursue legal action against the driver to recover that money.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

What is Collision Damage Waiver insurance ?

Collision Damage Waiver is a type of protection that limits how much a car hire company will charge for repairs. Find out what it covers and how much a bump might cost you.

What is covered by Collision Damage Waiver?

The coverage provided by CDW includes the car's bodywork, essentially the painted areas such as the doors, bonnet, back, side panels, and wing mirror housings.

What is not covered by Collision Damage Waiver?

In addition to typically excluding coverage for the car's roof, CDW does not protect against:

  1. Glass, including windows, lights, and mirrors.
  2. Tyres and wheels.
  3. Flat battery issues.
  4. Interior trim, encompassing seats, carpet, and all interior materials.
  5. Undercarriage damage.
  6. Your belongings left in the car, including items in the boot and glovebox.
  7. Lost keys.
  8. Gears/transmission issues.

Does Collision Damage Waiver cover all repair costs?

NO

Similar to various insurance plans, Collision Damage Waiver typically involves an "excess", referred to as a "EXCESS CLAIM AMOUNT" in the UAE . The excess is the highest amount the renter is responsible for covering towards bodywork repairs, generally falling between AED 2000 and AED 15000

If any part of the car, aside from the bodywork, sustains damage, the renter is responsible for covering the entire cost of repairs.

What if the driver damages someone else’s property?

Collision Damage Waiver is just one type of coverage for rental cars. Typically, rentals also include Theft Protection, safeguarding against car theft and related damages, as well as Third-Party Liability cover, which handles damages to other people's property.
